July 30, 2026, Norwalk, CT: One of the Northeast’s most respected Italian restaurateurs is expanding his culinary portfolio with the opening of Bar TerraMare, an exciting new restaurant coming to 122 Washington Street in the heart of South Norwalk, with a soft opening Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Created by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Giuseppe Castellano, Bar TerraMare introduces a fresh dining experience inspired by Italy’s coastal regions, where the bounty of the sea meets the richness of the land. The restaurant’s name, TerraMare, meaning “Land and Sea," reflects a menu celebrating pristine seafood, premium meats, handcrafted pastas, seasonal ingredients, and authentic Italian flavors presented with a contemporary touch.

Chef Castellano is the driving force behind the popular Gallo Ristorante and Lantern Bar & Gastropub in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Grand Gusto Trattoria in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Each has built a loyal fan base due to great food, welcoming hospitality, and memorable dining experiences. Born and raised in Naples, Italy, in the family’s restaurant business, Castellano brings generations of Italian tradition to the table while adding his own fresh, modern spin to all of his concepts.

"TerraMare represents the evolution of my cooking," says Chef Castellano. "South Norwalk has incredible energy and an appreciation for great food, so I wanted to create a restaurant unlike anything else in the area. Our menu explores the connection between land and sea, from traditional salumi and artisan cheeses to house-cured seafood ‘salumi’, and a dedicated crudo bar, inspired by Italy's beautiful coastline communities. It's refined but approachable, familiar yet unexpected."

Bar TerraMare offers an inventive balance of terra and mare. Guests can begin with Tuna Tartare topped with avocado salad and limoncello dressing, Burrata with fried artichokes and caper dressing, or Crispy Calamari with roasted tomato sauce. Handmade pastas include Lobster Paccheri with roasted pepper sauce, stracciatella, and toasted almonds, and Seafood Scialatielli with shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and squid. Entrées range from Branzino al Cartoccio, baked in parchment with shrimp and white wine, to New York Strip Steak with salsa verde, alongside artisan meats, cheeses, and house-cured seafood specialties.

Located on Washington Street and part of AGW SONO Partners' thriving real estate portfolio, the space has undergone a complete transformation, reimagined with a refreshed Mediterranean feel that replaces the former darker interior with warm limestone-inspired walls, natural oak finishes, ocean blue tiles, soft globe lighting, and sculptural architectural details that create an inviting atmosphere that is both sophisticated and relaxed. The restaurant features an open bar, comfortable banquette seating, intimate dining areas, and curated artisan accents throughout. Every detail was designed to transport guests to a stylish seaside trattoria where exceptional food, handcrafted cocktails, and genuine hospitality come together.
