70th Jubilee Solo Art Experience

SPAG Studios, 25France Street, Norwalk, CT
NORWALK, CT, March 24, 2026: A longtime presence in Fairfield County’s arts community, Sergey Stepanenko will mark a milestone 70th birthday with a two-day solo exhibition at SPAG (St. Philip Artists’Guild) in Norwalk on April 11 and 12.
The exhibition will showcase over 80 paintings created over the past decade, offering collectors and art enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience the depth and evolution of Stepanenko’s work in one setting.
A Darien-based artist with international roots, Sergey has been quietly building a devoted following across Fairfield County since arriving in the United States from Ukraine in 1995, selling out his first local show at Noroton Gallery within months of his arrival.
Known for his expressive palette knife technique, Sergey creates paintings that prioritize emotion over precision. His widely recognized “Homage” series reinterprets masterworks through a contemporary lens, layering color, light, and movement while preserving the spirit of the original. His “Traveling” series captures the atmosphere and energy of place, drawing heavily from the architecture, history, and character of old European cities.
“I don’t paint details—I paint emotions,” says Sergey. “It’s about the feeling of a place, the memory, the energy it leaves with you.”
Sergey’s paintings adorn private art collections around the world. Collectors often cite the uplifting, almost meditative quality of his work, pieces that continue to reveal new details and perspectives over time.
Sergey received formal training in fine art and design, earning degrees from the Fine Art College in Frunze, Kyrgyzstan, and the Moscow Printing University. His career spans multiple disciplines, from fine art and murals to large-scale installations, with commissioned works featured in luxury residences and aboard Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean.
The upcoming SPAG exhibition not only celebrates Sergey's 70th birthday but also highlights the continued vitality of Norwalk’s local arts scene and the role of artist communities like SPAG in fostering creative exchange in Fairfield County.
